Why be an Island Ambassador?

To meet people and make new friends
They say the friends you make in college are the friendships that last a lifetime. As a volunteer with the Island Ambassadors, you will have the chance to meet other students with whom you may share similar interests, classes, and backgrounds. Our Island Ambassadors have come from many places all over the state of Texas, the country, and from all over the world. Many of our volunteers claim to have made their closest friendships in college while serving as an Island Ambassador. A few of them even found love, as some of our former volunteers now share more than a tour time (like a last name)! In any light, meeting people is an important aspect of your college experience, and one you will find ample opportunities to take advantage of as an Island Ambassador.

To polish up your resume
Whether it be to apply for a scholarship, an internship, or a job, it's always important to have an impressive resume. A student's volunteer service as an Island Ambassador can be an impressive and prestigious accomplishment on one's resume, and many of our volunteers have been deserving recipients of scholarships and awards offered both internally as well as throughout the campus. Still, others have proven their knowledge and commitment as an Island Ambassador useful in their search for related internships and employment opportunities. The Island Ambassadors are extensively trained in campus information and customer service, often making them ample candidates for a multitude of campus-serving jobs and programs at the university.

To make campus and local area connections
As an Island Ambassador, you will be afforded multiple opportunities to work with the various staff and departments that comprise the Island University as well as the local Corpus Christi community. Our volunteers are often recruited to assist in other campus functions outside of Island Day (graduation ceremonies, presidential functions, etc.), and have appeared in numerous media outlets such as magazines, brochures, local newspapers, radio, and on television. Some of our volunteers have even been able to use their experience and knowledge as an Island Ambassador to secure job opportunities in the area of their degree and/or interests.

To gain valuable leadership skills and experience
Being an Island Ambassador is not just about being a campus tour guide. It is also about serving the campus as a student leader. All Island Ambassadors are trained in the areas of leadership and customer service, and your experiences in working with other volunteers and departments on campus will only better enable you to serve your campus and/or community in other leadership roles.

To have fun
This one is an absolute given! Being an Island Ambassador may be a big responsibility, but it is also a lot of fun. Aside from the programs we assist and the tours we give, the Island Ambassadors also get together for such events as game nights, potluck dinners, family weekends, and formal banquets.
